Our Mutual Ministry

St John Lutheran and Lake City United Methodist

The St. John Lutheran Church shares in a unique ministry with the  Lake City United Methodist Church   located 4 miles north in Lake City, MI.  We share a single minister, participate in occasional joint worship services and support one another in ministry to our surrounding community.  While each church remains faithful to it denominational understanding and history, we live out the realization that denominational lines do not separate us into different faiths.

As the Apostle Paul once wrote: (Romans 12:4-5) “For as in one body we have many members, and not all the members have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another.

We enjoy the reality of being able to share in our differences and finding strength within our joint ministries for the benefit of all.

On most Sundays our Pastor leads a worship service at the Lutheran Church at 9:30 AM and at the United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM.  On the fifth Sundays we usually hold a joint worship service at either the United Methodist Church or the Lutheran Church.  The church we are not at does not have a service at that location for that Sunday.  Therefore if you are visiting us on a fifth Sunday please check our calendar or contact us with regard to where our morning’s service will be held.  It will always be at the usual time for church with regard to the location we are meeting at.

Team Johnnie’s Angels

Relay for Life

These words are incredibly important to those who participate in the Relay for Life Events.  In May 1985, Dr. Gordon “Gordy” Klatt walked and ran for 24 hours around a track in Tacoma, Washington, raising money to help the American Cancer Society with the nation’s biggest health concern: cancer. We, as Johnnie’s Angels, began participating in the mid-90s as part of Wexford County Relay for Life. There have been many changes over the years for where we have held our event when we grew and were able to host events at Missaukee Relay for Life. We started in McBain, then switched to Lake City and are currently hosting the events in Cadillac as part of the Wexford-Missaukee-Osceola Relay For Life. During our event, we have special ceremonies to CELEBRATE and REMEMBER those who won or lost their battles with cancer. Throughout the year, not just at our event, we also raise funds for the American Cancer Society to help FIGHT BACK against cancer in hopes that no one else will face a future of uncertainties with Cancer.

Currently, Jennifer Raden and Billie Raden Co-Chair the team for St. John called Johnnie’s Angels.  We host our event in the summer months, but the dates in the summer may vary due to what works best for our Communities. We will share information regarding Relay for Life as we get it. We are RELAY excited to continue to support such a wonderful organization!

Festival of the Pines

For many years the women of St. John have made up packets of a variety of dry beans and included the recipe to make their now famous Bean Soup.

The sale is held the weekend of Festival of the Pines in September. Gallons of the soup are made ahead and sold so that you can “try before you buy”. All profits of the soup sale go toward enrichment and ministries at St. John.

The annual yard sale and bake sale has been a successful event for several years at St. John. The Fellowship Hall is filled with tables of all sorts of treasures for sale during this multi-day event. You can find toys, books, kitchen items, furniture, jewelry, and much, much more. The sale is usually held during the Festival of the Pines weekend in September.

All proceeds support St. John ministries and programs.
